ONLINE RACE REGISTRATION CLOSES AT 7:00 PM ON WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 14, 2026.

THE REGISTRATION FEE IS USD $20. PAYMENTS SHOULD BE MADE IN CASH AND ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.

THE UPPER JONDACHI RACE WILL START ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 15, 2026 AT 12PM

Participants in the Upper Jondachi Class V kayak race should register in advance to make check-in go faster. Meet at the Tzantza Cafe in Baeza or the Café Tortuga in Tena by 8am on Thursday, January 15, 2026, to load boats and equipment and be at the Urcusiqui access by 9am to check-in and pay your registration fee for the Upper Jondachi Race and attend the race orientation and safety briefing at 10am. Then you will have the option to paddle the warm-up section on the Urcusiqui River or start cold from the Km28/LMDJ access. After the race, paddlers will continue downstream to the take-out at the Km18 bridge. Paddlers are encouraged to do the warm-up section on the Urcusiqui River to avoid congestion of the Km28/LMDJ access.

After submitting this registration form, the USD $20 payment should be made in cash at the Tzantza Cafe in Baeza, or at the registration tent at the Km30/Urcusiqui access.

Race participants will receive an event T-shirt, a race bib that will be collected after the race, and a post-race snack. You must arrange and pay for your own transportation to/from the river.

The race is planned to be held on a short 1-mile (10-15 min) section between the Km28/La Merced de Jondachi put-in access and the pool just upstream of the Aphrodesia (aka Triple Drop) Rapid below the La Genoveva Overlook on the Jondachi River. However, changes could be made depending on water levels and conditions. Please prepare yourself accordingly. Prior to Thursday, January 15, 2026, you should complete at least two training runs on the Upper Jondachi, from the Km30/Urcusiqui put-in to the Km18 take-out on the Jondachi River, and declare that you are familiar enough with the run to race it.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

1- Have the necessary skills, experience, and equipment to participate in this Class V kayak race.

2- Complete at least (2) training runs on the Upper Jondachi, from KM 30 Urcusiqui River put-in to the KM 18 bridge on the Jondachi River, and have intimate knowledge and experience on the Urcusiqui and Upper Jondachi Rivers at different levels.

3- Class V PFD with a rescue belt, throw bag, river knife, and whistle.

4- Whitewater kayak with a length of up to 9′ 6″ (290 cm).

5- Complete online race registration by 7pm on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, or register and make payment at check-in and attend the pre-race orientation and safety meeting at the Km30/Urcusiqui meeting point on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at 9am.

PARTICIPANT AGREEMENT, RELEASE, AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF RISK

In consideration of the use of the motor vehicle transportation services for traveling to and from the river and paddling the Urcusiqui River and Upper Jondachi River for the purpose of safety, racing or exhibition, I hereby agree to release and discharge all volunteers, sponsors, the Ecuadorian Rivers Institute/Fundación Rio Napo, organizers of Jondachi Fest, and the country of Ecuador, on behalf of myself, my children, my parents, my heirs, assignees, personal representative and estate as follows:

I acknowledge that traveling by motor vehicle in Ecuador is exceedingly dangerous, and that it entails known and unanticipated risks which could result in physical or emotional injury, paralysis, death, or damage to myself, to my property, and/or to third parties. I understand that such risks simply cannot be eliminated without jeopardizing the essential qualities of the activity. The risks include, among other things: paralysis; sprains, strains, joint dislocations and broken bones; the negligence of other drivers; body entrapments; dismemberment; facial or other lacerations; impalement; extensive dental damage; and death.

I acknowledge that competing in Upper Jondachi Race and paddling the Urcusiqui and Jondachi Rivers is exceedingly dangerous, and that it entails known and unanticipated risks which could result in physical or emotional injury, paralysis, death, or damage to myself, to my property, or to third parties. I understand that such risks simply cannot be eliminated without jeopardizing the essential qualities of these activities. The risks include, among other things: paralysis; hypothermia; accidental drowning; sprains, strains, joint dislocations and broken bones; falling from high places; the negligence of other participants; boat pinnings; foot or other bodily entrapments; facial or other lacerations; impalement; extensive dental damage; and death.

I expressly agree and promise to accept and assume all of the risks existing in the aforementioned activities. My participation in this activity is purely voluntary, and I elect to participate in spite of the risks. I understand that many people consider speed paddling rivers of this nature to be foolhardy. I have run the Urquisiqui and the Upper Jondachi Rivers at a range of levels that includes all those the river may run on January 15, 2026, and have knowledge of the extreme danger of this stretch of river at all possible water levels. I UNDERSTAND THAT I WILL BE RUNNING THIS RIVER ON MY OWN AND THAT THERE WILL BE LIMITED “SAFETY” SET AT ANY OF THE RAPIDS ON THIS RIVER. THERE MAY BE TIMES WHEN I WILL BE ALONE ON THE RIVER AND HELP OR RESCUE WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE.

I hereby voluntarily release, forever discharge, and agree to indemnify and hold harmless all volunteers, sponsors, the Ecuadorian Rivers Institute/Fundación Rio Napo, organizers of Jondachi Fest, and the country of Ecuador from any and all claims, demands, or causes of action, which are in any way connected with my participation in this activity.

Should the volunteers, sponsors, the Ecuadorian Rivers Institute/Fundación Rio Napo, organizers of Jondachi Fest, and the country of Ecuador or anyone acting on their behalf be required to incur attorney’s fees and costs to enforce this agreement, I agree to indemnify and hold them harmless for all such fees and costs.

I certify that I have adequate insurance to cover any injury or damage I may cause or suffer while participating, or else I agree to bear the costs of such injury or damage myself. I further certify that I have no medical or physical conditions that could interfere with my safety in this activity, or else I am willing to assume — and bear the cost of — all risks that may be created, directly or indirectly, by any such condition.

I acknowledge that if I, or anyone else, am hurt or if property is lost or damaged during my participation in this activity, I hereby release any responsibility thereof, and may be found by a court of law to have waived my right to maintain a lawsuit against the volunteers, sponsors, the Ecuadorian Rivers Institute/Fundación Rio Napo, organizers of Jondachi Fest, and the country of Ecuador on the basis of any claim from which I have released them herein.

I have had sufficient opportunity to read this entire document. I have read and understood it, and I agree to be bound by its terms.

General Terms and Conditions – Please check all terms and conditions to verify your acceptance and understanding of the following conditions:

1- Race participants must complete race registration and payment by 7pm on Thursday, January 16, 2025, and/or should register in advance and make payment at check-in and attend the pre-race orientation and safety meeting at the Km30/Urcusiqui meeting point on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 9am

2- Payment of inscription fees is final and non-refundable.

3- Race participants are responsible for arriving punctually at the designated times and places, and returning the race bib to the organizers after the race. Race bibs can be purchased for USD $10.

4- The ERI reserves the right to make changes to the race itinerary, limit the participation of individuals who do not meet requirements, and/or suspend the event due to inadequate conditions.

5- The ERI is not responsible for any lost or damaged equipment or personal belongings.

RIVER SKILLS DISCLAIMER: I verify that I am a CLASS V PADDLER and have the skills, experience, and equipment required to participate in this Class V kayak race.

RIVER KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE DISCLAIMER: I have recently completed at least two (2) training runs on the Upper Jondachi, from KM 30 Urcusiqui River put-in to the KM 18 bridge on the Jondachi River, and I am familiar with the current river conditions.

EQUIPMENT DISCLAIMER: I understand that I am required to have a Class V PFD with a rescue belt, throw bag, river knife, and whistle, and a whitewater kayak, in good condition, with a length of up to 9′ 6″ (290 cm) in the race.

PHOTO/VIDEO RELEASE: I grant to Jondachi Fest and the Ecuadorian Rivers Institute, legal representatives and assigns, the unrestricted right to use and publish photographs and video of me, for editorial, trade, advertising, and any other purpose and in any manner and medium; and to alter photo/video without restriction. I hereby release Jondachi Fest, the ERI, its legal representatives and affiliates from all claims and liability relating to said photographs/video.

GDPR Agreement: I consent to have this website store my submitted information for the organization of the Upper Jondachi Race and understand that the ERI is committed to keeping my personal information private and secure. I accept that my name and country may be published in the race results.
