The Jondachi River flows out of the Ecuadorian Andes and drains into the Amazon Basin.  It provides key ecological connectivity through a critical transition zone between the Andean Cordillera and the lowland Amazon jungle. The Jondachi links protected areas in the headwaters to forest reserves in the lower basin through its free-flowing river corridor.

Petroglyphs from the Cotundo civilization (circa 800-1,000 AD), found along the Jondachi, are a testament to the river’s anthropological and cultural significance. A pre-Incan trail followed the Jondachi River, as a trade route from the jungle to the highlands.
