JONDACHI FEST 2017 AGENDA 

 

For all Jondachi Race competitors, training runs on the Upper Jondachi River during the week before the race are compulsory. Paddlers should use the Upper Jondachi Race Facebook page as a forum for coordinating trips with other kayakers in the area.

 

  • All festival activities have limited space and require prior registration (fees / prices TBA, where applicable)
  • All activities start and finish at the Tena waterfront tents unless otherwise indicated
  • All river activities (including the Upper Jondachi Race!) are subject to changes as dictated by water levels

 

Monday 1.16

  • 08h00 – 09h00 meet time Training runs on the Jondachi and other rivers in the area. (Café Tortuga, Tena waterfront) Training runs are required of all competitors in the Upper Jondachi Race.

 

  • 12h00 Registration for Upper Jondachi Race and other festival activities (via Internet and at authorized points in Tena)

 

  • 18h00 Ecuadorian premiere of JONDACHI (short film by Mike McKay) + Presentation of proposed plan of protection for the Jondachi and Hollin Rivers (GAD Municipal de Archidona auditorium)

 

Tuesday 1.17

  • 08h00 – 09h00 meet time Training runs on the Jondachi and other rivers in the area. (Café Tortuga, Tena waterfront) Training runs are required of all competitors in the Upper Jondachi Race.

 

  • 19h00 Video + Lecture: Expedición a la cumbre del Volcán Sumaco: “The vegetation of Sumaco Volcano and its relevance in the Hollín watershed” by Dr. Pablo Lozano (GAD Municipal de Archidona auditorium)
 

Wednesday 1.18

  • 08h00 – 09h00 meet time Training runs on the Jondachi and other rivers in the area. (Café Tortuga, Tena waterfront) Training runs are required of all competitors in the Upper Jondachi Race.  

 

  • 10h00 Tena River Cleanup (Meet at Tena’s Parque Central) Hosted by Ecuador’s Female Kayakers 

 

Thursday 1.19

  • 08h00 – 09h00 meet time Training runs on the Jondachi and other rivers in the area. (Café Tortuga, Tena waterfront) Training runs are required of all competitors in the Upper Jondachi Race.  

 

  • 19h30 Athlete orientation and race briefing (Sala de exhibiciones, Parque de la Isla – Enter by crossing the bridge to the tower on the Tena waterfront)  Attendance is MANDATORY for all competitors in the Upper Jondachi Race.

Friday 1.20

  • 08h00 UPPER JONDACHI RACE (Tena waterfront / Km 30 – Km 18 Vía Archidona-Baeza) This is a Class V race. Entry is limited to EXPERT kayakers only. Athletes meet at the Tena waterfront promptly at 08h00. Racers and on-water safety will then mobilize at Km 30 (Sarayacu/Urcusiqui) on the Vía Archidona-Baeza.

 

  • 10h00 – 16h00 Watch the Jondachi Race! (Campamento Recreativo “La Genoveva” at Km 26)  –  Hike down to the river or watch the Upper Jondachi Race from the platforms at La Genoveva. (Be aware that the trails into the river are steep, slippery, and hot!)

 

  • 19h00 Upper Jondachi Race Awards Dinner (Guayusa Lounge in Tena)

 

Saturday 1.21

  • 08h15 Jondachi-Hollin Expedition (ADVANCED KAYAKING)  (Jondachi bridge at Km 18 to Santo Domingo) Overnight Class IV/V kayaking expedition beginning on the Middle Jondachi. 35 km of paddling through some of the best whitewater that Ecuador has to offer. SOLID CLASS IV/V kayaking skills are a must. Space is limited.

 

  • 08h30 Jondachi-Hollin Expedition (RAFTING + INTERMEDIATE / ADVANCED KAYAKING)  (Mondayacu Km 10 to Santo Domingo) Overnight Class IV kayaking expedition beginning on the Lower Jondachi. 24 km of paddling on the stunning Lower Jondachi and Hollin Rivers. SOLID CLASS IV kayaking skills are a must for paddlers. No previous experience is necessary for rafters. Space is limited.

 

  • 10h00 – 17h00 2017 Ecoaventura Adventure Race (Meet at Tena’s Parque Central) Open and high school categories.

Sunday 1.22

  • 12h00 Jondachi-Hollin Expedition returns (Take out at Nuevo Santo Domingo / Trip returns to Tena’s Parque Central)
